BURN ALERT

Press the back of your hand firmly to the asphalt, for 7 seconds - to see if it is too hot for your dog.

Do this on ALL surfaces outside especially in the shade after the sun has passed over. They might still be too hot. It is so important to get on and of the blacktop, manhole, grate or sunny sidewalk fast.

Teaching an old dog "new tricks"

A 12 year old, female, husky mix came to us with a history of dog aggression. A week prior to her training board I began walking Beulah in her EV neighborhood, around the park and dog run, to de-condition her unwanted, defensive behavior. As I have done with many pups and rescues, I integrated Beulah into our pack at Carol's Dog Club for a week of intensive pack therapy which included: pack walks, play therapy, massage and brushing, monitored meals and water bowls, face washing, monitored group sleep and daily training sessions with newly introduced boarders and neighborhood dogs. Beulah handled her week beautifully, moment by moment, with little tension. The next step? Walking with Beulah and her owner to help the pair overcome life long habits of tension in the leash and fear on the walk.

There have been a couple of recalls made by some brands of dog food that are made by the Diamond Pet Food, Gaston South Carolina plant. Some of these recalls are voluntary and are just precautionary. You can go to the manufactures page for more information on the recall due to salmonella. The below Diamond Pet Dry Dog Food Brands - To determine if what you have is affected, you should check the production codes on the back of bags that have a number "2" or a "3" in the 9th or 10th digit and an "X" in the 11th digit. The best-before dates for the recalled brands are December 9, 2012 through April 7, 2013. Please note- not all Diamond brands were produced on the affected plant manufacturing lines.
